Mistake #1
You call the chiropractor's office to get an appointment and the first question they ask is..."What kind of insurance do you have?" The first question that should be asked is some version of "What kind of pain are you experiencing? Is it above the belt line or below? Or do you have any numbness or tingling? How long have you had the pain?
Do you have any xray or MRI of your spine? ....All questions demonstrating precise, informed, professionals that are screening you right away to determine if you are calling the right type of office to help you with your pain...Not immediate questions relating to your ability to pay for treatment.
Mistake #2
The receptionist makes some sort of comment like "Oh, yes our doctor can help you with that..no problem" BIG MISTAKE! Just how does a receptionist know they can help you? They are not a doctor, they have not done a thorough history, an examination, xrays, diagnostics, etc.
If anyone claims they know they can help you over the phone without ever meeting you or performing an examination to qualify you for care...Well, it's time to hang up the phone and call someone else.
Mistake #3
The Chiropractic Examination starts right away. Hold on there! Not so fast. What about a thorough discussion of your history and your pain or injury? This is vital with coming up with the right conclusion to the question "Am I in the right place?" Not every painful condition is a candidate for chiropractic treatment. You need to know if you should be getting chiropractic treatment or referred to another appropriate doctor.
Mistake #4
The chiropractor starts his interaction with you and wants to tell you about the first chiropractic adjustment in 1847 and speaks as if chiropractic is some sort of religion...Chiropractic is a precise science and treatment of musculoskeletal pain, not a religion.
Mistake #5
You visit a chiropractor that has only one main treatment to offer...adjustments or manipulation to the spine..No spinal rehab or strengthening programs, No spinal disc decompression for disc bulges, herniations, degeneration, No Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy for serious unresponsive pain, No supplements to help control pain.
If you visit these types of chiropractors, you may be limiting yourself to the type of treatment the doctor provides and not get the best option for your situation.
